Embedded Learning Objects.

I think that using Polls Everywhere could be extremely useful for middle school and high school teachers. I would use this more so as a reflective activity rather than a quiz or a test.

I would love to use Voki as a reminder for my young elementary students of their homework and assignments they need to complete. I think that using something like this would be fun and helpful for them. It is also extremely easy to use.

I think that using Venn Diagrams is an extremely helpful way to have students see the similarities and differences between two things. Gliffy also made it extremely easy to make a Venn Diagram and it was quick too. Gliffy seems to be a great free resource to keep in mind.

Graphic Organizer

The incentive that I used was a social studies for a fifth grade classroom.

5 – U3.2.1  Describe the advantages and disadvantages of each side during the American Revolution with
respect to military leadership, geography, types of resources, and incentives.

I decided that I would have my students write a brief paper on this topic. I think that having my students use this type of graphic organizer would help them to organize their thoughts before actually writing out the paper.

I think that this graphic organizer was a very easy way for students to organize their thoughts. It was extremely easy to use, and would be helpful for a student that may be struggling to put their thoughts together and order them correctly to write their essay. The only downfall of this page was that you can only have three main ideas. I think that older students would be able to understand that sometimes you need more than three main ideas though.

Entry Level Teaching Standards

It’s hard for me to say exactly how I meet these standards listed on the Michigan Standards for Entry Level Teachers seeing as though I haven’t had my first actual teaching experience yet. But when I look over the list of standards, I feel as though they are pretty do-able.

Right now, something that I am somewhat nervous about it writing my own lesson plans proficiently. (Section 2 “Instructional Design and Assessment” part a.) I am hoping that by the time I have finished my training at Cornerstone, student teaching, graduation, and eventually finding my own classroom to teach in, I will have had enough experience and practice to feel more comfortable about this.

I feel fairly confident about designing instruction so that students are constantly engaged. (Section 3 “Curricular and Pedagogical Content Knowledge Aligned with State Resources” part d.) I had certain teachers in high school that did a very good job at keeping students engaged in the classroom with different activities and learning exercises. At the same time, I had some teachers who were extremely disengaged and did nothing but lecture in the classroom. I learned so much more from the teachers who involved the students, and enjoyed those classrooms immensely. When I decided that I wanted to be a teacher, I also decided that I refused to become one of those teachers who only lectured. I want to make classroom experiences enjoyable and helpful for my students.

I think that one way to be sure that I meet these standards as a teacher is to be conscious of them. I need to remind myself of the goals that are set for me, and re-read these types of standards often to self-analyze and be sure that I am up to the standard I want to be as a teacher.

Learning Style Reflection

ILS Questioniare Results:

I feel as though these tests showed who I am fairly accurately. The Multiple Intelligence Survey showed that I am music, people, and word smart. I would most definitely agree that these are my top three strengths out of the ones listed. I love music with all of my heart. Although it is not what I chose to do for a career; it is something that I love and plan to do for the rest of my life.

This information can help me to be consious in my teaching that I do not ignore the ways of leanring that are not my strong points, such as naturalistic and logical. There will be children in my classrooms that do learn in these ways and I need to present information in these ways so that they can also learn in the best ways possible for them.

I feel as though it may be helpful to have students take a test like this, especially when they are older so they are more conscious about how they learn and what the best ways for them to understand information is.

I Want to Teach

One of my earliest memories is playing "school" with my younger siblings. Since I was the oldest, and obviously the most experienced, I would always be the teacher. School supplies would be equally divided between my sisters and brother. They would sit in makeshift desks and complete simple worksheets that I made for them. Sometimes, I would even go to the extremes of making lesson plans for lessons that I would teach to them. This was always a huge way that my time was spent while I was looking forward to going to school before I was old enough and the game went on even during summers.

One of my biggest passions in life is helping people. Whether it is simply opening a door for a stranger that has their hands full, or helping one of my closest friends to resolve a personal issue, I have always just liked helping people. I feel that as an learning disabilities teacher, I can help kids to achieve as much as they can in their lives. I have always enjoyed helping people with special needs and I think that I would like to help them for a career.

Blogs:

http://thekentuckyteacher.blogspot.com/

This is a blog written by a teacher who originally taught first and second grade and then went back to school for learning disabilities. I think that this may be the path that I want to take with my professional career. I think that by reading this blog, I can gain knowledge that she shares about the switch from a traditional classroom to a learning disabilities classroom. I like how she has articles that are applicable to any type of teachers and there are also articles that are more specific to learning disabilities teachers.

http://www.specialeducationteacher.me/

This is a website designed by a special education teacher who uses her blog to share resources with other special education teachers. She shares links, worksheets, activities, and other things that she has found helpful on her website. I really like that she utilizes the resources available to share with other educators the tools she finds helpful in her classroom.

http://teachersol.blogspot.com/

This website seems to be a combination of the previous two blogs. Not only does this teacher share resources and ideas with other special education teachers, it also seems like a place that parents can check in to see what is going on in their children’s classroom. I really like that this teacher had pictures of new things in the classroom. It seems as though it is a great way to keep parents up to date on what is going on in their children’s schooling.
